Alpine Tours

Tourer

Some of the most challenging skiing we offer can be found on our alpine tour. On this tour our clients have to work for their turns. The helicopter will drop off a group of eight clients and two guides at the edge of the Lone Peak Wilderness Area. Depending on the fitness level of the group, you will ski and skin up some of the most challenging terrain in the Wasatch. This tour is only for those accomplished skiers in excellent physical condition with some touring experience. A few of the exciting areas this tour may cover include Box Elder, Hogum Fork, the Coalpit, and White Pine. This tour is offered on a limited basis. You can be put on our calling list if you do not have a group of eight. If you have your own group of eight please call and check the availability of scheduling a tour.

Helicopter Shuttles

Heli

A variety of one-way and round-trip shuttle flights are available to and from Little Cottonwood Canyon. Most shuttles can accommodate 1-5 people. Some popular shuttles are to and from the Salt Lake Executive Terminal, the Park City / Deer Valley area, and the Salt Lake Valley. These do need to be reserved in advance in most cases. An alternative form of transportation may need to be available if we are unable to fly on the scheduled day.

Scenic Flights

Scenic

Scenic flights are a great way for families, or those who wish to tour the Wasatch from a bird's-eye view, to experience the majesty of these mountains. We offer scenic flights throughout the winter of the Tri-Canyon area. These are usually offered in the morning before helicopter skiing begins or in the afternoon after the clients have returned. Flights can normally accommodate 1-5 people.

Avalanche Awareness Classes

Avalanche

Wasatch Powderbird Guides offers a limited number of avalanche awareness classes. These classes include an "in-class" portion done at the heliport. During this portion of the class, students watch video and slideshows regarding avalanches, terrain selection, and backcountry safety. The "in-class" portion normally lasts approximately 3 hours. The helicopter will then fly the students out to an area selected by our guides where they can safely dig snow pits and identify snow layers. Students will ski down to the road where our van will pick them up and bring them back to the heliport. To participate students need to be intermediate to advanced skiers or snowboarders. They do not need to have any previous backcountry experience. We will supply avalanche transceivers to anyone who does not have their own.

The following items are needed for the class:
    Appropriate ski or snowboard equipment
    Warm Clothing and Gloves
    Small Pack
    Water
    lunch

    Optional:

    Avalanche shovel
    Snow Saw
    Avalanche Transceiver
    Small notebook and pencil
    Extra gloves
    Sunglasses

This class is not a certification class. It is a refresher or intro course to avalanche awareness. If you are interested in taking an Avalanche Certification Course please visit www.avalanche.org to find a class near you.
